Further Comments: This cloaked, bearded gentleman was seen lurking around the attic and one of the bathrooms. A few unearthly notes from a non-existent music box have been heard in the bar area.
Madam Vernon:

Further Comments: Madam Vernon's ghost returned soon after death, upset at how her family had split her wealth and land. The spirit caused much trouble, until clergymen banished the entity to a pond under the house.
Woman in White:

Further Comments: Prior to becoming a public house, the staircase of the manor house was haunted by a woman in a white gown. The woman may still remain, and now in addition a baby has been heard crying and mild poltergeist activity reported.
Dropped Stones:

Further Comments: The three stones here were taken from a church by the Devil to extend hell. They proved too heavy, and he dropped them where they now stand. Another legend says that if anyone tried to move the Webb Stone, farmland would become less productive, while a third story says that any girl who baked a cake on All Saint's Eve and left it on the stone would dream of their future husband.
Grave Hound:

Hound with Pointed Ears:

Further Comments: This large black dog, with pointed ears and glowing eyes, is said to haunt the area. In 1972, one witness watched a large ball of light crash into the ground, and the hound appeared soon after.
Molly with Pail:

Further Comments: Feeling so guilty about her own sins committed during life, Molly returned as a ghost; balancing a milk pail on her head, she apologised to anyone she met. This restless spirit was finally exorcised by six holy men, three of whom died in the process. However, a shade wearing black and white was seen racing around near the churchyard in the 1970s, which may indicate Molly's return...
Molly:

Further Comments: A witch during life, Molly Leigh's shade briefly came back from the dead the day she was buried and made its home in the local pub before being exorcised. Her grave is still visible in the churchyard (it faces north to south) and running around it three times is said to summon her spirit.

Rustling Skirts:

Further Comments: The sound of a rustling skirt was reported in several parts of the building, and doors were heard to open and slam shut.
Shamblers:

Charlie the Drunkard:

Further Comments: Local psychic Mystic Ed was called to the inn after several strange events, including the smashing of glasses and the fire place igniting itself. Ed claimed that several spirits were at work; a nineteenth century drunk named Charlie, a middle-aged woman, a soldier, and the ghost of a young boy called Scotty.
Sir Hugh de Hatherton:

Further Comments: This former lord of the manor has been named as the tall man dressed in a cloak that has been seen wandering the building, though never by a member of the family. A much older story alleges he once appeared at midnight in full armour, returning to take his skull which, at the time, was being used as a beer mug at a party.
Man with Greasy Black Hair:

Further Comments: The ghost of a thirty year old man appeared dozens of times over a thirty year period, trying to climb into the beds of the teenagers in this house.
Lady Harriet:

Further Comments: The former lady of the house, while never seen, makes her presence known by gently knocking on doors, and rustling her silken dress.
Dancing Folk:
Location: Cauldon Low - Ribden Lowe (round barrow on top of a hill)

Further Comments: The round barrow on this site was home to a hundred or so dancing fairies (according to Mary Howitt), with nine harp players to provide music.
White Cattle with Red Ears:

Further Comments: A legend says that the Ferrers family that lived here bred white cattle that had red ears - many thought they were fairy in nature. However, whenever one of the cows gave birth to a black calf, it heralded a death in the family.
Abbot of Croxden:

Further Comments: A cowled figure that was seen standing at the alter of the church was also thought to haunt the churchyard, though he was felt and not seen whilst outside. The vicar, after observing the entity, thought it could be the Abbot of Croxden who was buried within the building.
Mrs Hutchinson:
Location: Checkley - Checkley Rectory (New building), and the Hutchinson school

Further Comments: Mrs Hutchinson, former wife of a Vicar who she outlived by twenty years, has been seen walking the building where she once lived accompanied by her dog. Dressed in an old black dress, the ghost has also been heard to call people's names, and knock on the front door. The school that was named after her husband also reportedly harbours the entity.
Robed Figures:

Raining Shells:

Red Socks:

Further Comments: The nickname given to the ghost of a young boy, Red Socks was killed by parliamentarian troops during the Civil War. He has been seen standing in the Long Gallery, and has been mistaken for a real person.
Tudor Man:

Further Comments: A piece of road near Eccleshall is so named by locals as several paranormal events have occurred there. This includes a man dressed in Tudor clothing being seen walking along it, and another figure that stepped out in front of an incoming car - the driver swore that he'd hit someone, but the figure vanished. A phantom coach may also haunt the area.
Suicidal Lycanthrope:

Further Comments: Andrew, a teenager from the village, was found dead at the crossroads having killed himself with a penknife. One of his friends reported that Andrew had called him just before midnight, saying that his skin was changing and that he was turning into a wolf.
Metamorphic Mist:

Further Comments: A friend of the Rector reported watching a patch of mist gather in a corridor, which then formed into a figure. The misty head turned and faced the witness before dissipating.
Misty Figure:

Further Comments: A misty figure appeared in front of two witnesses out walking a dog. The misty dissipated as they approached, but reformed a few minutes later further down the lane.
Dick the Devil:

Further Comments: Dick the Devil was the nickname given to a miner who worked alone at night, capable of digging up more coal than any other man. When a curious miner looked to see how Dick could work so hard, he observed the man smoking a pipe while several knockers (mine spirits) worked away around him. The observing man gasped and ran off; the knockers enraged at being seen turned on Dick and killed him.
Headless Horseman:

Further Comments: Riding a white horse and donned in a full suit of armour, his knight can also be recognised by his lack of head.
Tail End Charlie:

Further Comments: The headless rear gunner that haunts this area walked into the propellers of a Lancaster - whether it was an accident or suicide we'll never know.
Pounding Hooves:

Further Comments: The local stories state that many years ago, a coach returning guests to the hall crashed along the road, killing all on board. The horses (and sometimes the wheels of the coach) can still be heard on occasion, thundering along the road.
Serving Wrench:

Further Comments: This female entity, accompanied by a Caviller, moves along the bar area, only to vanish when reaching the wall. Other misty figures are reported to have been seen by regulars.
Legless Men:

Further Comments: Sue Cowley was driving her husband and child home stopped when she saw what she first thought were animals crossing the road. As Sue stopped, she realised that they were actually shadowy figures; dressed in Roman clothing, the group of twenty or more men crossed the road waist deep in the tarmac as if it was water, though it did not impede their movement.
Fred:

Further Comments: The Acorn Inn, like several other pubs scattered across the UK, is home to a presence that has been nicknamed Fred.
John Naden:

Further Comments: The gallows that once stood in Leek were dismantled and used as stiles in the surrounding countryside - Naden was hanged just prior to this for murder and his ghost now walks around the area, seemingly emotionally attached to the pieces of wood used to kill him.
Killer Mermaid:

Further Comments: The fish woman surfaces to comb her hair at midnight - anyone approaching too close are dragged down into the deep waters with her.
Coach:

Cutlery Thrower:

Further Comments: A poltergeist is said to inhabit an upper room of this old building. People have had objects, including cutlery, thrown at them, and the room is now sealed off because of the activity.
Dick:

Further Comments: Dick Whittington once owned this building, and now occasionally returns to keep an eye on things. Other ghosts on site include Lady Jane Grey, a monk, and an entity that reportedly tries to strangle people as they sleep.
White Rabbit:

Further Comments: A ghostly rabbit is reported to haunt this area, normally appearing to warn of an impending death.
Puritan:

Further Comments: A puritan dressed in worn clothing and a wide brimmed hat was spotted in the men's toilets by two Ipswich Town football fans returning home from an away game. The puritan left the room and the two fans followed him, wanting to ask if he was an actor, but he vanished. The two men asked around if anyone had seen the strange man, but no one else had.
Farm Dog:

Further Comments: The lane outside of the farm was once the haunt of a phantom black hound. The same dog (or maybe another) also haunted the area around Indefont Well.
Coach and Four:

Further Comments: A phantom coach reputedly arrives, turns around in a courtyard and leaves again. A white lady walks around the hall itself.
Young Victorian Girl:

Further Comments: This young girl was mistaken for one of the owner's daughters, until she vanished in front of the witnesses.
Robed Man:

Further Comments: A member of staff quit after encountering a tall, dark stranger dressed in a long white robe. The daughter of the landlord awoke one night to also find the entity standing by her bed.
Crying and Voices:

Further Comments: The third largest explosion of World War 2 happened here when an allied ammo dump blew up, taking several farms and dozens of people with it. The sound of people crying has been heard, as have an eerie voice coming from ground zero.
Man on Old Bicycle:

Further Comments: A man on an old style bicycle has been observed travelling down this stretch of road. It is thought to be an engineer who drowned at a nearby pumping station.
Lollard Girl:
Location: Gradbach - Lud's Church (a local chasm), also known as Ludchurch

Further Comments: Following a banned religion during the 1400's, the Lorrards used this place to worship. Alice, a member of the family, was killed as soldiers raided the illegal gathering and now her ghost frequents the spot over her grave. The area is also reportedly the site where Sir Gawain killed the Green Knight.
Hiding from Vampires:

Further Comments: A body found in the building was surrounded by garlic, salt, crucifixes, and other items reported to scare off vampires - tragically, the dead man was found to have choked to death on a clove of garlic that lodged in his throat as he slept.
The White Rabbit of Etruria:

Further Comments: This ghostly white rabbit appeared after the phantom cries and scream of a young boy. It was thought that the rabbit was the ghost of a fourteen year old lad who was murdered by another teenager while arguing over a wager.
Children:

Further Comments: The old block containing the paediatric ward was believed to be haunted by several children. One doctor running through the block after being bleeped saw seven children playing in the area. It wasn't until later she realised that the ward was closed and empty.
Man with White Hair:
Location: Stoke on Trent - A34, from Manchester heading towards Stoke on Trent

Further Comments: Two people driving towards Stoke on Trent watched a man with slicked white hair standing by the roadside. He stared into the car as they drove past, and as they rounded a bend a little further ahead, the white haired man was spotted once again, standing by the roadside in front of them.
Wolf on Hind Legs:
Location: Stafford - German War Cemetery, Camp Road, between Stafford and Cannock

Further Comments: In two separate sightings, two men reported a large hairy creature standing on its hind legs, between 180 - 200 centimetres in height. One of the men approached it, but the creature ran off.
Governess:
Location: Seighford - Seighford Hall Hotel, Room 8

Further Comments: A governess based at the hall two centuries ago, the woman killed herself when her love for the master of the property became clear. She manifests to children who stay in room 8. The rustling of her dress may also be heard down the corridors of the building.
Christina Collins:

Further Comments: While these steps were thought to be haunted by the ghost of Christina Collins, the witness of a more recent sighting stated that the phantom woman was wearing 1950's clothing. Either way, the ghost is said to descend the steps in the early hours of the morning.
The Graduate:

Further Comments: The Old Grammar School once stood by the side of this building, and the ghostly young man wearing his graduation gown and cap is believed to be one of its former residents. The murderer Dr. William Palmer is also thought to haunt the site, as his former home stands by the Old Chancel grounds.
Sweeping Brush:

Further Comments: A yard brush was seen sweeping a path without human help and a lawnmower rolled uphill at this residence. Other more 'normal' poltergeist occurrences included the ringing of doorbells and self opening and closing doors. Some attributed the paranormal happenings to the ghosts of three people killed in an aircraft crash that occurred in 1938 on the corner of Fortescue Lane and Green Lane.
Hound:

Further Comments: A phantom black dog, unlikely to be a shuck, has been reported to walk around the corridors of the inn.
Grey Lady:

Further Comments: Home of five ghosts in total, the grey lady has been seen within the building with a set of keys dangling from her belt. The screams of a man falling down a well (no longer present) are still heard in the garden, a tall man dressed in black rubbing a ring stands in the drawing room, while two other ghostly woman have been reported, one seen and the other heard as her dress rustles down a corridor.
Popping Bottles:

Further Comments: A number of poltergeist tricks were reported from the inn, including the tops popping out of bottles, sounds of smashing glasses, till trays full of cash flying off the bar, and flickering lights.
Monk:

Further Comments: While walking along this street at night, one witness reported seeing a shadowy figure resembling a monk.
Grey Lady:

Further Comments: Seen several times over the years, this phantom woman in grey clothing wears her hair up in a bun, a large hairpin holding it up.
Yellow Lady:
Location: Pattingham - Private resident along Hall End Lane

Further Comments: This phantom girl was seen only twice, during the same year. She was reported to be in her 20s, possessing long blonde hair and wearing a yellow dress. A few years later, a strange blue eye was spotted by two people starring from a knot hole in the floorboards - it remained looking around for several minutes before slowly vanishing.
Headless Horseman:
Location: Onecote - Road from Leek to Onecote, and Butterton Moor

Further Comments: This headless horseman is said to either be a murdered pedlar or a knight killed in combat with the Scots. Either way, the figure is said to be unlucky (with witnesses either dying or losing livestock) and an exorcism once performed on the phantom horseman by seven preachers failed.
Staked Giant:

Further Comments: This sycamore grew from a stake used on the body of a giant. It is unclear whether this implies that if removed, the giant shall return.
Man Eating Family:
Location: North Staffordshire Moorland - General area

Further Comments: A family who lived on the moor were tried and executed for murder - it was discovered they supplemented their diet by feeding off the flesh of those lost on the moor. For years after their deaths, sounds could be heard of them giving chase to their victims over the desolate moor land.
Man Monkey:

Further Comments: A man driving a horse and cart crossed this bridge at around ten in the evening. A black creature with white eyes leapt from a bush upon the horse, causing the horse to panic and bolt. The rider used his whip to lash out at the creature, only for the whip to pass through the entity. The man eventually arrived home, with little memory of how he managed to shake off the attacker. Speaking to another local man, he was told the creature was a man-monkey, which came into being after someone drowned in the river.
Woman:

Further Comments: A member of staff locking up at night after everyone had left watched a woman walk past him towards the toilets. The man shouted after the lady to be quick; she appeared to ignore him and disappeared into the restroom. After several minutes of waiting he knocked on the door. There was no reply, so he entered the room to see if she was okay - it was empty.
Mr Drewrose:

Further Comments: This ghost had been seen for a number of years, and is said to have passed on a message to a visiting medium which revealed an unsafe amount of petrol under the building - Health & Safety Officials removed the hazard.
Greyhound:

Further Comments: This phantom greyhound began to haunt the area after a local lady drowned herself nearby.
Guard Dog:

Further Comments: The site where three Jacobites are buried is haunted by a large black hound that ensures their graves are not disturbed.
Black Lady of Tamworth:

Further Comments: Said to be the ghost of St Editha, this phantom nun has a room named after her within the building - she once appeared here and bullied a greedy landlord into returning stolen church lands. Another female, a white lady, also haunts the castle grounds.
Man Monkey:

Further Comments: This building is haunted by the sounds of a Clavichord (similar to a Harpsichord) and by a phantom stable groom.
Gabriel Hounds:

Further Comments: Gabriel Hounds, demonic dogs that would fly through the air, would often be heard in this region. Other witnesses thought they were geese
Dancing Fairies:

Further Comments: The hill here is reportedly home to the little people, who spend the night time hours dancing on the summit.
Baby's Arm:

Further Comments: A mummified arm of a young child (a hand of glory) was once found in the attic of the inn and it is believed the spirit of the infant still haunts the room, causing strange banging and leaving handprints in dust.
Moved:

Further Comments: The fairies took a dislike to where the church was going to be built, so moved the foundation stones to the top of the hill where the church was finally built.
Man in Black Cape:

Further Comments: More frequently seen in the nineteenth century, this ghostly gentleman, complete with cape and cane, could be seen walking his dog around the estate. It was thought that he had suffered a heart attack, and broken his neck while falling down a set of steps. There is also a local story that a death of an heir of the Shrewsbury family is always preceded by the appearance of a ghostly old gypsy on the estate.
Little Boy with Red Piggy Eyes:

Further Comments: This cottage hit the news when the owners refused to finish paying for the property, due to the ill effects they suffered caused by the supernatural entity that took the form of a small boy. They were sued by the former owners over non-payment of the £44,000.
Ghost Hunt:

Person in Cloak:

Cowboy:

Further Comments: A video recorded on a mobile phone was said to contain the image of a ghostly cowboy, though the 'ghost' resembles light flare. A previous landlord claimed his child spoke to the phantom cowboy, who would move the child's socks.
Lady May:
Location: Tipton - The Park public house

Further Comments: Lady May was the young daughter of a squire who suffered a major haemorrhage and died in the attic. Since then, the loft has been home to bangs, crashes, and a light switch which insists on turning itself on.
Teenage Boy:
Location: Tipton - Noah's Ark Inn

Further Comments: This phantom teenager stood at the foot of the bed of a new landlord. The ghost vanished when the landlord, a former boxer, took a swing at it. Patrons of the pub said the description of the spook matched that of a former landlord's son, who died some years previous.
Blue & White Ladies:
Location: Tanworth - Tanworth Castle

Further Comments: The blue lady took her own life after watching her lover die during a jousting contest outside the castle - she now patrols the battlements. The white lady is thought to be a nun from a priory which once stood nearby.
Fragmented Soldier:
Location: Tamworth - Unknown road in Fazeley area

Further Comments: A witness driving along the road slowed down to offer a lift to a tall man dressed in a soldier's uniform that was walking along the verge. However, the soldier appeared to shimmer and fragment like a broken reflection on water as the witness approached closer.
